We’ve been lucky enough again this year to be working with some amazing people at Index on Censorship on their Index Freedom of Expression Awards 2015 logo and we’re really pleased with the results.
Last year we helped deliver all of their awards branding and collateral (which looked great BTW) but this year we’ve laid the groundwork for a much more permanent identity with the Index Freedom of Expression Awards 2015 logo.

Before this years redesign the Index Freedom of Expression Awards logo and identity changed every year (and it’s been going for over 15 years). Each year the awards design had their own unique look and feel, and whilst this added interest it failed to give the award a recognisable mark that would give it a sense of permanence and more importantly a sense of belonging to the Index on Censorship organisation. It also heaped a lot of extra cost and work onto an organisation with a small team and budgets that could be better spent. A change to a permanent identity would bring them many benefits.
The solution, to create the Index Freedom of Expression Awards 2015 logo as a mark that would be strong enough to stand on its own and also infer its relationship to the organisation that presents it.
To help achieve this we leveraged aspects of the Index typeface into the new design to give it a sense of belonging and then tied it to a strong graphic mark that would help explain quickly and unequivocally what the award stood for.
We think the results speak for themselves. The new Index Freedom of Expression Awards 2015 logo is stronger than anything that has come before it and finally gives the Index Freedom of Expression Awards an identity that can confidently be used over the coming years.
There’ll be much more material for the Index Freedom of Expression Awards 2015 logo to applied to (websites, brochures, tickets, pledge cards, the list goes on!) – we’ll post it when it’s all done and dusted. In the mean time if you want to find out who these guys are and how important their work is why not take a look around their site www.indexoncensorship.org
