Like our work with 38 Degrees and Index On Censorship, our recent work designing the Compassonline.org.uk Conference 2013 identify and support materials has been, not just the usual design fun but also deeply enjoyable as they are another client that is trying to change the world for the better and build a fairer and more inclusive notion of society.
Designing the Compassonline.org.uk Conference 2013 was fun too because we had a blank sheet. Between Studio ROKIT and our client contact David Heinemann, we decided to try and breathe a bit sense of fun, positivity and freshness into the proceedings and ignore the usual visual trappings of such conferences.
We thought it was important to do this for a few reasons. The first was that the whole event was set up to be an ‘unconference’ from the start and based around people and shared experiences. An event that shunned the usual strict notions of what a conference should be and one that allowed attendees to flow more naturally around the event spaces in a way more akin to a music festival. In fact that’s really what the Change: HOW? conference was designed to be from the start. A festival but instead of music, wall to wall ideas and conversations. The second was that it needed to be engaging and get people who may have not wanted to go to a conference before interested enough to take a leap.
500 People. All Parties. All People. One Amazing Programme. And A Bar.
To work was done on a tight budget and an even tighter deadline and had to cover a lot of ground. Identity, website, e-shots, print advertising in national newspapers, copywriting, illustration. It all had to be delivered. But like many designers we love a challenge.
The combined end result was a striking logo for the event that stood out and got them noticed with their target audience and a range of marketing materials that ensured that Change: HOW? the Compassonline.org.uk Conference 2013 was given the best chance possible to impress.
And it worked. The Compassonline.org.uk Conference 2013 was a sell out and the Change: HOW? unconference, the ‘Festival of Ideas’ went down a storm with the client.
We’ll update this post with shots from the event later. We think it’s guaranteed to be something rather special.
